Brief history(History in period 1980-1986 is unclear, but Kirk bought her as a bare hull. He bought her in 1985 and think she was only just moulded in 1985/86. If so she cannot be #80)

Built by Kirk Tierney in period 1986-1988, She was built in the company of two other stable-mates, as they all worked on these boats together. Then sailed by him and his wife full time until sale in 1996. Although a pre-fire moulding she received the full mk2 treatment with the mk2 pilothouse and cockpit, and also the mk2 bowsprit and has the taller double-spreader mast. Kirk sailed Unicorn about 30,000 NM including Canada, the USA, Caribbean, Transatlantic, Azores, Spain, Med, France, North Sea and UK, and then African West coast to Caribbean, South America, then USA and back to Canada. Kirk noted he had an epoxy over-hull added just from above her waterline, in theory making her pox-proof (osmosis-proof). Strictly speaking at this time she was called "The Unicorn".

Refitted in 1996, then sold in 1996 to an unknown buyer.

Purchased on an unkown date pre-2011 by the Galli's who homeported in Padenarum, MA until late 2021.

As of 2021 there were changes compared to original build in cockpit area (solar, radar low instead of up in the spreaders, dodger, etc.) But same electrical panel, carpentry, desk, sole, etc.

December 2021 sold to an unknown buyer and moved homeport to New Bern, NC.
Other commentsAlmost certainly NOT moulded 08-1980. Completed with mk2 pilothouse & cockpit, mouldings, bowsprit, and taller double spreader mast. Has integral-moulded pilothouse, so not one of the first mk2. Possibly moulded 1985/1986.

NOTE-2022 : If the current owners wish to be in contact with Kirk Tierney to learn details of original build, cruising, etc then please contact admin at the Corbin 39 Association.
